Practicing the art of Hygge
Posted on January 31 2017
Hygge n: [mass noun] A quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.
Why don't we have words like this in the English language? Hygge seems like the perfect word to capture winter Sunday afternoons at my house. Crock-pot - or now the Dutch Oven cooking something amazing, the fireplace raging, Hartford by my feet and a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate next to me and whatever book I am reading at the time.
This term is starting to take off like crazy and as far as popular trends go - I hope this is one everyone can get behind. I don't think a fire, a dog or anything else is necessarily required - just a feeling of cosiness and contentedness. Happy where you are, with whom and with what you have.
The attached picture is of Hartford warming up by the fire after running around in the snow - not pictured is my hot chocolate, blanket, book and sweatpants - but I think this gives a good visual as to how I am approaching the art of hygge.
Would love to hear how you are getting on the hygge train and what it means to you.
